How to Save Water
at Work
By saving water in your daily
business practices, you are also actively contributing to reducing demand on our
precious drinking water.
- Educate your employees
and co-workers.
Awareness of water scarcity issues and impacts of water conserving practices
not only saves water, but also saves money. Educated employees will be
able to identify problems before they become serious and can help think
innovatively about ways to conserve or reuse water.
- Know your usage - start
with reading your water meter.
By reading your meter daily,
weekly, or monthly, you can record average water consumption.
-
Establish a baseline
use.
To establish a baseline, divide your
monthly or bi-monthly bill by the number of days in the cycle.
- Identify and repair
leaks. The easiest way
to know when there are leaks is to understand when your level of use rises
above a base level use of your operations. Devise a method of
inspecting machinery and areas where leaks may occur. Worn or old
equipment can waste significant amounts of water. For concealed or
subsurface pipe work,
Keith McDonald Plumbing
can employ leak detection techniques.
- Install water efficient
equipment such as
low-flow toilets, high efficiency shower heads, and water conserving ice
makers. As appliances and equipment wear out, replace them with water
saving products. a
- Reduce frequency of
cleaning external equipments and areas as much as possible.
- Wash vehicles only when
needed.
